Scarf (Supporting special Children and their Relatives and Friends) is a parent-led charity based in the New Forest. We organise regular term-time and holiday activities for children and young people with special needs and their families. Children are aged 0 -25 and have a broad range of disabilities and special needs, such as Down's Syndrome, autistic spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy and learning difficulties. We believe all children and young people should have access to high quality, stimulating and exciting opportunities. We know that families of children with special needs find it very difficult to access mainstream leisure or holiday activities. Scarf offers a wide range of fun, social, sporting and leisure activities. Our approach is not just to meet the needs of the disabled child, but also to recognise the impact on the whole family, particularly siblings, who also need fun and support. Parents and carers particularly value the opportunity to meet others in a similar situation and share experiences and gain support. At all our activities, we aim to create an inclusive and welcoming environment so all children and their parents feel comfortable and have the confidence to participate without worrying about being judged. Our term time events include a Drama Club, a Youth Club and a Saturday morning Multi Sports Club. During the school holidays we run a programme of activities for children with special needs as well as their siblings to take part in. Scarf is a membership organisation - families pay an annual membership fee, and pay for activities they attend. Scarf has a hardship fund available to those experiencing financial hardship.
